Welcome to the 2013 A-Z Blog Challenge. This will be the third year I have done this. I decided to do 26 Days of Stories, one for every letter of the alphabet.
So, here's my day after Easter story. When my third child, Jaime, was about 4 years old, she had been recently told about Santa Claus by her two older siblings.
"Mom, why do parents lie to their children?" she asked. It didn't fit with the values we had instilled in her about always being truthful.
I decided I'd give her some sage motherly advice, and try my best to explain the justification that parents just wanted to bring joy to their children by creating Santa Claus, and the promise of getting gifts for "being good." Only, I didn't get that far.
I began by saying, "Well, it's like the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny--"
Jaime looked at me in horror. "Oh, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny too?"
I had managed to ruin not one, but three of Jaime's childhood fantasies, at the same time.
Hope you'll come back tomorrow. Meanwhile, enjoy some of the other blogs in the A-Z Blog Challenge - over 1600 of them this year, by clicking here.
