SUNDAYS WITH SHARON: Celebration

SUNDAYS WITH SHARON

sundayswsharon

I've bought several colorful pieces of artwork over the past year that just make me happy looking at them. I bought this piece to celebrate the completion of another book. I knew when I first saw it, I had to have it. We decided to prominently display it in our living room. It was something that characterizes our family, and our family's history. Since the words on the piece might be too small to see, I thought I'd list them in this post.

IN THIS HOME:

1. We do second chances.
2. We do grace.
3. We do real.
4. We do mistakes.
5. We do I'm sorrys.
6. We do loud, really well.
7. We do hugs.
8. We do family.
9. We do love.

Sometimes I think we spend too much time thinking about the things that didn't go right, when all the great lessons in life come from the things that go a little wrong. Sometimes that go a lot wrong. I've been spending a lot of time writing recently about family, or lack of family, and how that impacts a character in my story. My family is very important to me. And just like everyone's it too is flawed. But yes, I believe in second chances, in being loud, in loving more than disapproving, making mistakes and being sorry.

I just thought I'd keep it simple today. Keep it real.

What about you?

  3. i come from a very close knit family. We all talk at the same time and get louder and louder. I talk to my mother every day shes our matriarch. So although im not there with them i know everything thats going on. Nice post Sharon we are the lucky ones. When i think of all the servicemen and women from all over the world who have nobody to write to or phone home to makes me so sad.

  4. Our family was like that too. My husband's was even crazier! Yes, it does touch me to know there are those that never had that. My character is like a lost soul from time to time, and of course he finally gets the family he's always wanted, but we all know that doesn't always happen. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. I really enjoy reading your blogs. My family isn't very close but the few times we get together it can definitely get loud. Luckily my kids and I are very close. We get together every two weeks to play games and just talk. I love this closeness we have but it also brings home to me what my family missed out on.

  6. Terri, thanks for sharing that. You know, I got into this in the book, too. We all want to think happy thoughts about our childhoods, and some of us were lucky enough to be raised in a loving family. And some didn't have that. Being close with your kids breaks that cycle. Only takes one generation. I look at how loving my kids are with theirs, and I see the roots of what I planted when I was raising them. Nothing feels better, believe me. You are creating a lifetime of love and enjoyment.
